Computer programs for eukaryotic gene prediction
Staff scientist at the bioinformatics company BionomiX. Prior to that Dr Makarov developed bioinformatics knowledge management systems and algorithms at Paracel, a business of Celera Genomics, and at Ceres, Inc, as well as conducted research in structural and computational biology at the University of Houston and Baylor College of Medicine.

Seven popular programs for gene prediction in eukaryotic organisms are described and evaluated on the basis of availability for in-house and on-line use and prediction accuracy. This report outlines generally applicable approaches to computational gene prediction and known limitations in this field.
