A new publisher for Briefings in Bioinformatics
This is the first issue of Briefings in Bioinformatics to be published by the journal's new publisher, Oxford Journals, a division of Oxford University Press. Briefings in Bioinformatics, and its sister journal Briefings in Functional Genomics and Proteomics, have been acquired from Henry Stewart Publications, and join a number of complementary titles already published by Oxford Journals, including Bioinformatics, Nucleic Acids Research and Human Molecular Genetics. We are delighted to be publishing the Briefings journals as we believe that the role they fulfil is essential in the fast-moving area of molecular biology. Briefings articles provide an expert overview of the latest developmentsthis is an important way for researchers to stay informed, particularly those moving into new fields. They are also a good teaching resource.
We are looking forward to working with the journal editors to continue to provide such a useful resource for the molecular biology community. As the publisher of the Briefings titles, we will also work hard to widen the dissemination of the journals, and to improve online functionality. Indeed, some of the first developments have already taken effect. In January, we launched online publication ahead of print (Advance Access) for Briefings in Bioinformatics, which means that the final version of articles can be published online ahead of the print issues, within 4 to 6 weeks of acceptance. We also plan to provide Briefings authors with an electronic offprint of their articlea URL that provides unlimited free online access to their paper and can be forwarded to interested colleagues.
Please do visit the journal's new web site at http://www.bib.oxfordjournals.org for author instructions, to see the latest Advance Access papers, to subscribe to the journal, or to join the eTOC alerting service (registrants are sent the latest table of contents each time new content is published).
If you would like to send us feedback on Briefings in Bioinformatics we would be happy to hear from you. We welcome ideas from you, the reader, on how the journal can continue to best fulfil its mission.
